2015 Caroline Clapham IELTS Masters Award Announcement

The IELTS Research Committee, comprising representatives of the British Council, Cambridge Assessment English, and IDP: IELTS Australia, is pleased to announce the awarding of the 2015 Caroline Clapham IELTS Masters Award to Hyunjin Kim, who completed her master’s degree at the University of Bristol. Her dissertation focused on the under-researched area of test consequence, looking into teachers’ responses to the discontinuation of a public examination reform in South Korea.

Interestingly, she is the first winner of the award who was supervised by another winner of the award. Her supervisor, Talia Isaacs, won the award in 2007. Says Dr Isaacs: “It is an honour to have learned that Hyunjin Kim, a talented, self-directed student, is recipient of this year’s Caroline Clapham IELTS Masters Award. This feeling is compounded since it is the same award that I was recipient of 8 years ago and that catapulted my career.”

The award, which carries a prize of £1000 and sponsored attendance at the annual Language Testing Research Colloquium (LTRC), aims to encourage young researchers to pursue careers in language testing. Counted among former winners are professors and lecturers, researchers in examination bodies and other organisations, and a director of a teacher training institute.
