Test takers around the globe have welcomed the option of taking the world’s most trusted high-stakes language test on a computer.
Since its launch in Australia in December 2017, computer-delivered IELTS has been introduced in more than 20 countries and territories around the world.
This new option - available in both IELTS Academic and General Training, will not replace paper-based IELTS but rather offer greater flexibility and more choice, providing test takers with results in 5-7 days and more test date availability.
Warwick Freeland, said that the new test option was designed to meet the changing needs and behaviours of its global audience.
“Computer-delivered IELTS offers test takers more choice, by providing more sessions a week and faster results, while maintaining the trust, integrity and security that makes IELTS a world-leading test,” Mr Freeland said.
James Shipton, Head IELTS, at British Council said that while test takers now have more choice, the Listening, Reading and Writing test content remains the same, on paper or computer, and the Speaking test continues to be held face-to-face.
“We have maintained face-to-face Speaking as a key component of the test, as it is important the test reflects real-world human speaking interactions,” Mr Shipton said.
