IELTS offers more test places for New Zealand residence programme

The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) has announced additional places in its test centres across New Zealand, to support an expected increase in test takers after changes to application requirements for the New Zealand Residence Programme’s Skilled Migration Category.

Immigration New Zealand announced that more applicants for the Skilled Migration Category Resident Visa will now be required to provide formal evidence of English language proficiency as part of their Expression of Interest submission.

IELTS has held a longstanding relationship with the New Zealand Government for more than fifteen years, and remains the world’s most popular high-stakes English language test for work, study and migration.

“IELTS has established a strong track record over more than 25 years for quality, integrity and fairness,” said Warwick Freeland, Managing Director of IELTS Australia.

“This proven experience is highly valued by more than 9,000 organisations around the world that choose IELTS to measure English language skills, including the New Zealand Government and also governments in Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

“IELTS competes with other tests in most markets around the world and in the majority of countries, including India, China, the United Kingdom and Australia.”

Mr Freeland concluded that IELTS will continue to implement a range of strategies aimed at maintaining the position of the test in the New Zealand market and beyond.
